Dublin or Baile Átha Cliath as it is known in Irish Gaelic is the capital city of the Republic of Ireland and was originally founded as a Viking settlement. Today, Dublin has a population of 505,739 (urban area 1,045,769) making it reasonably small and compact for a European capital. Also, in many recent polls Dublin has been voted one of the top places to live. Due to the "Celtic Tiger" economical success of the 1990s, the city has progressed to become one of the wealthiest in Europe.
